Scored for augmented jazz ensemble, this setting of the famous theme (a.k.a. Danny Boy) features legato woodwind flourishes and sustained brass chords. In his score notes, Nestico says that all real 'blowing' should be saved for the ensemble chorus midway through, where a full, fat sound will produce vivid contrast with the quiet opening and closing.
